Chan Yong Sheng brings more than a decade of experience in trademark prosecution and intellectual property portfolio management across Singapore and the wider ASEAN region. Yong Sheng began his legal studies at the University of Adelaide, before completing his Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice at Flinders University in 2015.
In the same year, Yong Sheng joined Drew & Napier LLC, where he spent the following eleven years progressing from Trade Mark Executive to Senior Trade Mark Executive within the firm's Intellectual Property Department, developing a strong foundation in trademark practice, from initial search and clearance through to long-term portfolio maintenance.
During his time at Drew & Napier, Yong Sheng managed and administered trademark portfolios for local and international clients across Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, and beyond. His work encompassed the full trademark prosecution lifecycle, including filing through IPOS and WIPO, office action responses, renewals, assignments, and recordals, together with opposition, invalidation, and enforcement matters, requiring close coordination with attorneys, foreign associates, and registry offices, and providing a practical understanding of how trademark systems operate across jurisdictions with differing procedural requirements.
Yong Sheng now serves as Assistant IP Manager at Cat and Pillar, advising clients on brand protection strategy, conducting pre-filing searches and registrability assessments, and preparing and filing trademark applications through direct national routes and the Madrid Protocol. He also contributes to the firm's operational processes for trademark administration and client service.
Fluent in both English and Mandarin, Yong Sheng is known for his attention to deadlines, his organised approach to portfolio and docket management, and his ability to communicate complex trademark regulations clearly to clients navigating unfamiliar markets.
Yong Sheng's interests outside of work include reading, particularly history, and following current events. He is a former Taekwondo black belt.
